SOWING A LEGACY SINCE 1986

OUR STORY

ASHWOOD ORIGINS

Over Fifty Years of Cotton, Community, and Care.

What began as a small family partnership in 1974 has grown into a legacy defined by vision, resilience, and an enduring bond with the land. When the Brimblecombe family left the Lockyer Valley, where generations had grown vegetables and worked in dairy, they moved west to St George in search of new opportunities. Purchasing their first auction block through a ballot program, Scott’s father and his brothers laid the foundations of what would become Ashwood Farms. The land was dotted with Moreton Bay Ash trees, and it was while clearing them that the farm found its name, a quiet nod to its beginnings.

As seasons passed, the operation weathered its share of challenges: tough market cycles, drought years in the early 2000s, and the relentless demands of working the land. Yet each hurdle was met with determination, adaptability, and a drive to keep moving forward.

What began with hand-levelled fields and modest equipment has grown into a progressive farming operation underpinned by technology, water efficiency, and innovation.

Ashwood is now guided by smart irrigation systems, sensor technology, and ongoing crop and fertiliser trials, proving that tradition and progress can thrive side by side. But at its core, Ashwood’s story has always been about people: a family who built something from the ground up, a team who carry that vision forward, and a community that the farm is proud to support. Through education, transparency, and genuine connection - from regular bus tours to open conversations about water and farming practices - Ashwood shares knowledge, challenges perceptions, and fosters understanding. It’s a story that reaches well beyond the paddock: one of legacy, innovation, and deep respect for the land and the people it sustains.

Meet Scott Brimblecombe

In 2000, I began a succession plan to take over the operation from my parents. The early years were hot, dry, and challenging, reinforcing the importance of efficient water management.

After years of exploring improved flood irrigation methods, Ashwood transitioned to bankless irrigation, a journey completed in 2025. Today, Ashwood is 100% bankless irrigated.
